1. Introduction
DailyReport (“DailyReport,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides short-form news reading with explainable trust and conflict signals. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use:
- Our website at
https://dailyreport.observer(the “Site”); -
Our Android application DailyReport, package
observer.dailyreport.app(the “App”); and -
Related services and APIs hosted at
https://api.dailyreport.observer(together, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services. Editorial content is curated and published through our operations tools; automated summarization may assist editors and does not replace human publication decisions.
2. Data We Collect
We collect information in the following categories:
Account and identity (optional). If you sign in with Google, we receive identifiers such as your Google account ID, name (if provided), and email address to authenticate you, link purchases, and sync preferences.
App preferences and usage. Region preference, language preference, saved and liked articles, dismissals, custom RSS feeds you add, and similar settings stored to personalize your feed.
Device and technical data. Approximate device type, OS version, app version, IP address (processed by hosting providers), and diagnostic logs needed to operate and secure the Services.
Push tokens (optional). If you enable notifications, a Firebase Cloud Messaging device token so we can send digests or topic alerts you opted into.
Purchases. Subscription status and product identifiers via Google Play and RevenueCat (for example entitlement state for DailyReport Plus). We do not receive or store full payment card numbers.
Advertising (free tier). On the free tier, Google AdMob and related Google advertising services may process advertising identifiers, approximate location, and interaction data subject to your consent choices and Google’s Privacy Policy.
Communications. If you email us or open a support request, we keep the content of that correspondence to respond.
3. How We Use Data
- Provide and operate the Services (feed, saves, account, API).
- Personalize lanes, region, language, and recommendations.
- Verify Plus entitlements and remove ads for subscribers.
- Send optional push digests and product notices you enable.
- Show ads on the free tier where consent is required or obtained.
- Secure the Services (abuse prevention, debugging, uptime).
- Comply with law and enforce our terms.
- Improve product quality using aggregated, de-identified analytics where available.
Editors may use AI-assisted summarization tools when preparing short “bites.” Those tools process article titles and excerpts supplied to our API under our operator controls; they are not used to train models on your personal account data in the ordinary course of reading.
4. Legal Bases (EEA / UK and similar frameworks)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on one or more of:
- Contract — to deliver the App and account features you request;
- Consent — for optional push, certain ads/cookies, and marketing;
- Legitimate interests — security, product improvement, and non-intrusive analytics, balanced against your rights;
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information.
You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, without affecting prior lawful processing.
7. Data Retention
We retain account and preference data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for backups, disputes, and legal compliance. Push tokens are removed when you unregister or uninstall. Server logs are rotated on a shorter schedule. When you request deletion, we delete or de-identify personal data unless we must keep it by law.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent;
- Portability of data you provided;
- Opt out of sale/share of personal information where those concepts apply (we do not sell personal data for money).
In-app choices include region/language settings, notification opt-in, and signing out. To exercise privacy rights, use the contact method in Section 11. We may need to verify your request.
9. Children’s Privacy
DailyReport is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10. International Transfers
We are building for India-first users. Infrastructure and processors (including Google and hosting providers) may process data in India, the United States, the EEA, or other locations. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or processor terms) for cross-border transfers.
